"State Representative John Espinoza of Croswell is presented with the award for Legislator of the Year from the Michigan Rural Health Association at a conference in Mt. Pleasant last month. Presenting the award is John E. Barnas, Executive Director of the Michigan Center for Rural Health.
LANSING¬ – State Representative John Espinoza (D-Croswell) has been named Legislator of the Year by the Michigan Rural Health Association for his outstanding leadership in working to ensure that residents in rural areas have access to affordable, high-quality health care.
"One of my priorities is making sure that regardless of where you live in the Thumb and the rest of Michigan, you have reasonable access to high-quality health care," Espinoza said. "Residents who live in rural communities shouldn't have to settle for second best, especially when it comes to something as important as their health. Availability of health care is also a big factor in creating good-paying jobs and attracting businesses to our area, which is essential to revitalizing our economy."
Espinoza, who has lived in rural Michigan with his family most of his life, was presented with the award last month at the 11th annual Michigan Rural Health Conference in Mt. Pleasant.
"Representative Espinoza has been a strong advocate for rural health care providers and facilities to get the resources they need to serve the residents of rural Michigan," said John E. Barnas, executive director of the Michigan Center for Rural Health, who presented the award to Espinoza. "He understands the issues surrounding access to care and is an advocate for improving care for all families in rural Michigan."
