MARLETTE – State Representative John Espinoza (D-Croswell) is urging local manufacturing companies to attend a workshop on May 22 designed to help them take advantage of opportunities to supply components to the rapidly growing renewable energy industry.
"I encourage all local manufacturers to come and learn how to put these assets to use in a new market, which is meeting the growing needs of renewable energy companies," Espinoza said. "Other companies in Michigan are retooling their plants to produce wind turbine parts, and we can do it here, too. We have to make sure that our workers get their share of these-good paying jobs."
The free workshop, the first of its kind in the Thumb, will take place from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday, May 22, at ThumbWorks, 3270 Wilson St. in Marlette.
Manufacturers from Sanilac County and surrounding areas are encouraged to attend. The workshop is sponsored by NextEnergy, ThumbWorks, Thumb Area Builders Alliance, the Michigan Economic Development Corp. and Huron County Economic Development Corp. Experts will cover the areas of wind energy, solar energy systems, biomass and biofuels, and hybrid vehicles.
Companies wishing to attend are asked to register by Monday, May 19. For more information or to register, contact Huron County EDC, which is coordinating registrations, at (989) 269-6431.
