LANSING – State Representative John Espinoza (D-Croswell) today praised a plan to save taxpayer money by consolidating the state's internal auditing and internal control system functions. The full House has approved Espinoza's resolution supporting the plan.
"This plan represents a big step toward making sure that our state government is as lean and efficient as possible," said Espinoza, who is a member of the House Appropriations Committee. "Michigan is in the middle of a crippling budget crisis, and every dollar that our government spends must be justified. This type of consolidation ensures that our taxpayers' money is not being wasted."
The plan concentrates all state internal auditing and internal control system functions for all state departments within a single state agency.
"While I am pleased that the 2007 budget deficit was resolved, much work remains to be done," Espinoza said. "As we move forward, we must be vigilant about finding opportunities to cut costs and enact reforms that limit government spending."
